Data Warehouse Information and Overview

Course Code: 01-05-T930

Organizational databases store crucial information for tracking and decision making. Data warehouses help you analyze complex data by organizing and summarizing operational information. For data warehouse projects, thorough analysis is crucial to establish the data structure that aligns with your organizational objectives. This class provides you with an overview of data warehouse systems. The class format includes lecture, hands-on exercises, and real-world examples.

Finding agile solutions and delivering technology projects can be difficult. It can be especially difficult for a non-IT professional to understand how different technological elements work together. This is the recommended eighth class of the Technical Solutions Delivery Certificate. This certificate provides you with an overview of the programs and systems commonly used in projects so that you can communicate and collaborate effectively with your project team.

Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Compare and contrast Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) databases and data warehouses.
  • Define the four-step design process for data warehouses.
  • Outline common data warehouse structures: Star, Snowflake and OLAP.
  • Determine what fact tables are and how they measure business performance.
  • Understand dimension tables and tracking the details of measurements.

Prerequisite: You should be familiar with using personal computers, the mouse, and keyboard. You should be able to use Windows to launch and close programs, navigate to information stored on the computer, and manage files and folders.

Intended Audience: This course is appropriate for anyone, but it is especially ideal for communications professionals engaged in project planning. It equips non-IT professionals with a basic understanding of the IT world.
