Annual festival to impact campus streets July 12 to 16

Capital Lakefair, the 60-year-old event that takes place along the shores of Capitol Lake, begins Wednesday, July 12 and ends Sunday, July 16, with a nighttime fireworks display.

Lakefair requires temporary closures of several campus and city streets. A section of Water Street, next to Heritage Park, is already closed for Lakefair set up.

Here is a partial list of street closures during Lakefair:

  • Deschutes Parkway, between 5th Avenue and Lakeridge Drive, will be closed from about 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, July 14.
  • Deschutes Parkway will be completely closed from about noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 15.
  • Washington Street – next to Sylvester Park – between Legion Way and 7th Avenue will be closed from about 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 15.
  • 11th Avenue at Capitol Way, the south and north diagonals and Sid Snyder Avenue – will be closed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 15.
  • The area behind the Temple of Justice, the mansion lot, and the switchback trail will be closed on Sunday July 16 at noon to begin preparations for fireworks Lakefair organizers estimate that more than 200,000 people will attend this year’s five-day event.
