Campus tree removal set for Dec. 19-20

December 17, 2012

Capitol Campus Update

OLYMPIA – A nearly 35-foot-tall Western red cedar tree will be removed Dec. 19 from next to the Visitor Center at Capitol Way and Sid Snyder Avenue.

The tree, which is adjacent to the pedestrian footbridge over Capitol Way, is diseased and poses a public safety hazard.

Arbor Care Tree Service of Astoria, Ore., will start the work at about 9 a.m. and should be done by about 1 p.m.

The tree removal will require blocking off a handful of parking stalls in the lot next to the Visitor Center. The center houses the Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater Visitor and Convention Bureau.

Wood from the downed tree has been offered to local tribes.

The company on Dec. 20 will also remove four trees – two yews, a laurel and a crabapple – from next to the Insurance Building. This work will also begin around 9 a.m. and take a few hours to complete.
