Free Capitol Campus Navy band concert Aug. 19

The Navy Band Northwest will perform a free public concert from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 19 near the Medal of Honor Monument on the west Capitol Campus.

The band plays a variety of popular patriotic music, including selections written by John Philip Sousa, Henry Fillmore and Gustav Holst.

The band is coming to the campus as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the sister-state relationship between Washington state and Hyogo Prefecture in Japan.

The band will also be performing at 11:30 a.m. that day on the front (south) steps of the Temple of Justice as part of the 50th anniversary welcoming ceremonies in which Gov. Jay Inslee will officially welcome the Japanese delegation. The ceremony is open to the public.

Limited visitor parking will be available on Aug. 19, as several hundred people are expected on the campus as part of the sister-state anniversary.

Concert attendees and other campus visitors may want to use the Dash, the free Intercity Transit shuttle service that serves the Capitol Campus, downtown Olympia and the Olympia Farmer's Market.
