Friday rally could grow larger than expected

On Friday January 20, an estimated 500 people are scheduled to attend a permitted "Youth Unity Rally" which will take place on the north steps of the Legislative Building.

The rally is scheduled to occur from 9 a.m. to noon. In addition to the rally, information has come to light that other groups could join the event with the intention of not just exercising their free speech rights but also with being disruptive to state business.

The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) and the Washington State Patrol (WSP) stand ready to respond if protesters become disruptive to state business or engage in unauthorized activities. Those who work or visit the campus will likely see more people and hear more noise than usual Friday.

DES and the WSP support the safety and security of all people conducting business in the Legislative Building and on the campus. Representatives from both agencies will be on hand all day to monitor events and respond to potential problems.
