Heritage Park hillside trail closes April 2-3 for maintenance work

The hillside switchback trail that runs between the west Capitol Campus and Heritage Park will be closed 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 2-3 while Enterprise Services spreads new gravel there to maintain safe footing, accessibility and minimize erosion.

The trail will reopen after 3 p.m. both days. Some cleanup work may continue on April 4, but the trail will be open.

The storage area for materials will block the three visitor parking stalls reserved for people with disabilities at the top of the hill on April 1-3. Visitors in need of ADA parking will be directed to other accessible stalls nearby.

There may be brief lane closures along Water Street north of the Temple of Justice on April 1 for the delivery of gravel.

The switchback trail has not been resurfaced since 2005. Since that time only spot maintenance has been done on the walking surface.

Enterprise Services grounds staff will use small excavators and special carts to move gravel from the top and bottom of the trail. Gravel will be moved into place and dropped along the trail, spread by mechanical means and hand-raked into place, and then compacted with small rollers.
