The state holiday tree, the evergreen that adorns the Capitol Building Rotunda each year, will arrive on the Capitol Campus at about 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 25.

The tree will be set up in the rotunda and decorated that day.

The annual public tree lighting ceremony, sponsored by the Association of Washington Business (AWB), is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 6 in the state Capitol Building rotunda.

Port Blakely Tree Farms is donating this year's tree, a nearly 25-foot-tall noble fir cut from the company's property near Morton in east Lewis County. The 16-year-old fir was harvested on Nov. 15 from Port Blakely tree farm land at the 3000-foot elevation level.

For 25 years, AWB has sponsored the Holiday Kids' Tree Project. Association members and citizens provide donations used to purchase toys and food that are distributed to needy families in rural parts of the state by firefighters from Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Thurston, Grant, Walla Walla and Spokane counties.

This year's tree will be decorated with 5,000 LED lights and ornaments. The tree's lower branches will hold stuffed characters, which will be donated to Seattle Children's Hospital.

Prior to the tree lighting, Gov. Jay Inslee will present donor checks from the AWB Holiday Kids' Tree Project to rural fire districts in the State Reception Room.

He will also present gifts to the Master Sergeant Richard Maser family. Maser, who serves in the Air Force Reserve's 446th Airlift Wing, Aeromedical Staging Squadron, and his wife and daughter have been chosen as this year's military family to officially turn on the holiday tree lights.

Chris Liu, director of the Department of Enterprise Services, will welcome the public to the tree lighting ceremony.
