Parking Services Alert - increased Capitol Campus enforcement begins in May

What?

Enterprise Services is implementing an interagency agreement with the State Patrol to increase parking enforcement of existing regulations the Capitol Campus by dedicating a full time cadet position to patrol visitor and employee parking.

Where?

Employee and visitor parking locations on the Capitol Campus, not to include parking at the Temple of Justice or parking locations managed by legislative staff (South Legislative Lot, Pritchard Lot, Flag Circle, Mansion Lot).

When?

Parkers may have already noticed an increase in parking violation warnings issued by DES in the past weeks. The increased WSP enforcement begins in May.

Why?

While most employees and visitors to the campus voluntarily comply with parking rules, many are ignoring the rules which is negatively impacting other employees and visitors to the campus. An effective parking enforcement program will support fair and equitable access to parking for those who visit and those who work on the campus.

The objective of the enforcement program is to increase compliance with parking rules. In accordance with existing statute, all parking citation revenue is retained by the Thurston County District Court where adjudication and collection of parking citations occurs.

Things to remember

For employees to avoid receiving a parking warning or citation, here are some things to remember:

  • Be sure your parking profile is current. If you have changed jobs, bought a new car, or are using a different vehicle, we need to know. Update your parking profile.
  • Place your parking sticker in a visible location in the front or back windshield.
  • Park in the garage or lot that you are assigned to. If you are not sure where that is, contact Parking Services at (360) 725-0030.
  • If you are temporarily reassigned to the Plaza Garage during session, be sure your placard is hanging on your rearview mirror.
  • Park in one stall. Be sure your tires aren’t crossing the line into the stall next to yours.
