Sidewalk upgrades planned around Old Capitol Building

Pedestrian pathways at the four corners at the Old Capitol Building on the Capitol Campus will be replaced beginning Thursday, April 6. The work includes installing ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Contractor American Pump & Electric will begin layout of work to the northeast and southwest corners of the walkways on Thursday and will start saw-cutting on Friday, April 7. The cutting work will bring some noise impacts as well as temporary sidewalk closures. The next steps -- demolition and pouring concrete – are weather dependent.

Once the northeast and southwest corners are finished, the contractor will remove and replace the northwest and southeast corners.

The sidewalk work is expected to last about three weeks. However, weather could extend that timeline.

Repairs to the Old Capitol exterior also are planned, beginning in late April. The repairs include masonry work and replacing the building’s two large skylights.
