Successful repairs stop steam venting near Insurance building

A contractor hired by Enterprise Services completed temporary repairs on March 23 to a leaking underground steam pipe that was venting non-toxic plumes into the air near the Insurance Building.

The work finished early on Saturday morning without interrupting any state business.

The leaky pipe provided heat to the Irv Newhouse Building on the west campus. The heat, which was shut off for the repairs, was restored immediately following completion of the work.

Gaining access to the pipe required the removal of a section of the sidewalk near the ADA ramp at the southwest corner of the Insurance Building. The ramp will remain closed until new concrete can be poured.
