Third diseased tree to be removed and replaced along Maple Park Drive

OLYMPIA - During work to prune 50 trees along Maple Park Drive, a third diseased sugar maple tree was discovered. The pruning work is being done to improve tree health, ensure public safety and provide appropriate vehicle clearance.

Originally, in addition to pruning work, the project included removing two dying sugar maple trees at the west end of Maple Park Drive. A contractor hired by the Department of Enterprise Services will remove the third tree as well. Three new trees will be planted later this spring by Enterprise Services grounds staff.

This week's pruning work will continue through Friday, Feb. 3. As part of the work, a stump grinder will prepare the areas where the three diseased trees are being removed so the new trees can be planted.

Enterprise Services contracted with Arbor Care Tree Specialists for the tree work. The contractor is pruning trees to remove dead wood to eliminate safety hazards, and also selectively pruning trees to increase illumination from street lights, to provide vehicle clearance, and to clear branches affecting the Employment Security Building.
