Closure of campus building begins Feb. 28

The Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation is moving out of the 1063 building, also known as the Capitol Park Building, on Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 1.

A moving truck will be parked along the westbound lane of 11th Avenue, next to the building, off and on throughout both days. The Department of Enterprise Services will have a flagger on site to direct traffic around the movers.

Archaeology and Historic Preservation is moving to the Capitol Court Building, also known as the Old Thurston County Courthouse, located at 1110 Capitol Way South.

The Washington State Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board is also moving out the 1063 building, probably around April 1. The board is moving to the Republic Building at 505 E. Union Avenue in Olympia. The only private tenant in the building is scheduled to move out in early March.

Enterprise Services, the state agency that manages the buildings on the Capitol Campus, will close the 1063 building once the current tenants move out.

The 2013 Legislature initiated a project that calls for the demolition of the 1063 building and GA Parking Garage, replacing both structures with a 200,000-225,000 square-foot office building. Demolition of the existing buildings and construction of the new structure is contingent on funding from the 2015 legislature. The 1063 building will remain unoccupied even if the project is not funded by the legislature.
