Gun rights rally at north steps of Capitol Building on Sept. 24

The Department of Enterprise Services has issued a permit to a gun rights group for a rally to be held on the north steps of the Legislative (Capitol) Building on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

The event organizers – the Gun Rights Coalition – estimate that up to 200 people will attend.

The group will then have a picnic near the Tivoli Fountain, on the west Capitol Campus, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Many participants are expected to openly carry firearms, as allowed under state law, at the rally and picnic. There is no prohibition against openly carrying guns in the public spaces of the Legislative Building or on the campus grounds.

As with many campus events, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) will have troopers on duty during the rally.

WSP advises anyone who perceives a threat on the Capitol grounds at any time to call 9-1-1.

All permitted events, rallies and other activities scheduled to take place on the Capitol Campus can be viewed on the Enterprise Services website.
