March 5 event to bring armed participants to campus

The Department of Enterprise Services has reserved space for a Saturday, March 5, event on the Capitol Campus where participants may be openly carrying firearms, as is allowed under state law.

The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the concrete pad east of the Tivoli Fountain. See campus map.

The organizers say their event is part of a nationwide rally hosted by the family of a member of the armed occupation at a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon who was killed by Oregon State Police troopers on Jan. 26.

Event organizers estimate that up to 150 people may attend.

As with many campus events, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) will have troopers on duty during the rally.

WSP advises anyone who perceives a threat on the Capitol grounds at any time to call 9-1-1.
