Section of 11th Avenue narrowed to one lane on Oct. 28

The westbound lane of 11th Avenue between Capitol Way and Columbia Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 for a concrete pour at the 1063 Block Replacement Project construction site. This closure was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26 but was rescheduled due to the wet weather forecasted that day.

Flaggers and signage will be in place during the lane closure. The traffic impacts should be minimal with delays of a minute or less expected.

Upcoming project impacts

The new building will begin to draw electrical power from the Capitol Campus grid in mid-November. Electricity to the construction site currently comes from a temporary transformer installed on Union Avenue, adjacent to the new building.

The switchover from temporary to permanent power will require a power outage that affects the temporary transformer but not any of the nearby businesses, residences or the Capitol Campus.

Crane departs Nov. 12-13

While downtown Seattle has more construction cranes in operation now than any other city in the U.S., the one being used at the 1063 construction site is about to go away. With the topping off of the building and most of the lifting and lowering of heavy materials completed, the crane, which is expensive to rent, will not be needed much longer. The crane is scheduled to be removed from the construction site on Nov. 12-13.

Upcoming construction milestones

While much of the current activity at the construction site is happening inside the building — mechanical, electrical and plumbing work — a major milestone for exterior tasks begins later this month when workers begin to install the stone cladding. The cladding will go up on the south side of the building first, the side facing the west Capitol Campus. Window installation is already underway and will continue into December. The roof of the new building is scheduled to be completed in February 2017.

The project remains on time and within the allotted budget. Final completion is scheduled for August 2017.
