Tree work scheduled on Capitol Campus September 21

OLYMPIA — Tree pruning work will be done near the Winged Victory monument on the Capitol Campus Sept. 21.

The Washington State Department of Enterprise Services has contracted with Cascade Tree Experts for the pruning effort, which aims to improve tree health and ensure public safety. The contractor will be working on the Blue Atlas cedar between the Winged Victory monument and the Sunken Garden.

Traffic impacts

The maintenance work will impact auto and pedestrian traffic on campus, including:

  • The outside lane in the traffic circle along the north side of Winged Victory memorial will be closed. One lane in the interior part of the circle will be open to traffic.
  • The north end of Cherry Lane from the Winged Victory intersection to 12th Avenue will be closed until work has been completed
  • The sidewalks that pass along all sides of the Blue Atlas tree will be closed.
  • The west and south entrances to the sunken garden will be closed.

Signs will be posted for alternate walking routes.

Noise impacts

There will be noise from chainsaws and wood chippers during the work, which will take place between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sept. 21. It is possible that some work will continue on Saturday, Sept. 22.
