Campus Energy System

DES is preparing to replace Capitol Campus’ outdated and failing heating and cooling system with a zero-carbon solution.

DES will install an ambient temperature loop to heat and cool more than a dozen state buildings across Capitol Campus.

State-of-the-art zero-carbon technology will replace campus’ 100-year-old natural-gas-fired system, which is at risk of failure.

Replacing the old system will help us meet the state’s Clean Buildings Performance Standard.

Cost: $9.2 million.

Phase: Design

Funding source: 2025-27 state capital budget

Timeline: DES will manage the project to minimize disruptions and costs over three biennia. Initial timeline: 2027 through 2034. Construction should begin on East Campus in late 2027.
