Design Guidelines & Construction Standards

The Design Guidelines & Construction Standards establish guidelines for practices and materials used in state government buildings owned by DES.

Architects, engineers, contractors, project managers and other professionals in the building trades consult the standards to plan and carry out their work. Following them supports the construction and maintenance of sustainable, accessible, energy-efficient, and high-quality buildings.

The standards also aid DES in our mission to uphold nationwide principles of historic preservation on the Capitol Campus National Historic District and at facilities across the state.

We update the standards every two years to reflect current practices and industry standards. This year we're also making improvements to the publication's format and accessibility.

The current version of the Design & Construction Standards is on our Publications & Reports webpage.
