Part of 11th Avenue by GA Building to close April 28, May 5-6

A short section of 11th Avenue from Capitol Way to Water Street SW, in front of the GA Building, will be closed in both directions from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28.

That same section of roadway will again close in both directions on May 5 but the hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both closures are needed for concrete pours at the 1063 Block Replacement Project.

The May 5 closure will be extend through the night and remain in effect until about 3:30 p.m. on May 6. The road closure on May 6 is for the Medal of Honor Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony at the Law Enforcement Memorial, which is located immediately north of the Temple of Justice and overlooking Capitol Lake and the north Capitol Campus. The ceremony begins at noon and ends at 3 p.m.

The left-hand turn lane on northbound Capitol Way at the intersection with 11th Avenue will also be closed those days. And the 11th Avenue closure will require a temporary change to the route used by the Dash shuttle, the free bus that runs through the heart of downtown Olympia from the Capitol Campus to the Olympia Farmers Market. Go to the Intercity Transit webpage for more information.

The sidewalk crossing at 11th Avenue and Columbia Street, near the GA Building, will also be closed those days.

Barricades will be placed at both ends of the road closure and flaggers will be on site to help manage traffic.
