Green purchasing guidance for batteries and flashlights.
Required specifications
The following have been identified as green specifications relevant to the good/services as minimum mandatory requirements. These would not be part of a scored exhibit. If you are using the Washington state procurement manual templates, the following should be inserted in the relevant document that describes the product or performance requirements.
- Bidders may not offer mercury-containing batteries on this contract unless there is no technically feasible alternative.
- Nickel metal-halide (NiMH) rechargeable batteries in common sizes (AA, AAA, and D) that have a relatively high power rating (in milliamp hours).
- Batteries maintain a minimum of 80% of its capacity after 1 year in storage or 75% of their capacity after 3 years in storage.
- No single use alkaline batteries.
- Flashlights must have an LED light source.
- Flashlights must use rechargeable batteries.
