About the project

Aerial photo of area where the project is taking place.

This is the current phase of a multi-phased plan developed in 2006 to implement a master plan approved by the State Capitol Committee in 1997. This phase will:

  • Stop water from leaking into the Plaza Garage
  • Redesign a portion of the East Plaza to better complement the intended landscape design of the East Capitol Campus

The project will begin in May 2019 and continue through December 2019. Public access to the East Plaza will be limited.

East Plaza Repair update

Work is well underway on the southeast section of the East Plaza to repair the water leaks above the Plaza Garage and replace the landscaping in front of the Department of Transportation Building.

Work done May 6-10

  • Continued demolition of planter beds, saw cutting and removal of concrete, vegetation and soil
  • Temporarily relocated the smoking shelter to the northwest side of the ESD Building

This week crews are continuing the demolition work and removal of concrete, soil and vegetation. As the surface structures of the Plaza are removed, leaks on the A level of the Plaza Garage may become more frequent during rainy weather. Please use caution around wet surfaces. Construction crews will plug the leaks as they become apparent.

During the work, visitors and tenants can expect to hear noise and may feel vibrations related to construction work. Signage is posted to help pedestrians navigate routes around the construction site.
