The public is invited to view Senate sessions from the gallery located on the fourth floor. The desks of the 49 senators are visible from the north and south gallery locations with the Senate floor dropping two feet gradually, from back to front, to provide a theater style view of the rostrums from the chamber floor. The galleries are open year-round for viewing of the Senate Chamber. The Senate chamber walls are lined with German marble and the perimeter of the ceiling is decorated with the names of Washington State's forty-nine counties. Forty-nine mahogany desks sit atop a colorful carpet featuring small English Dogwood flowers and the Washington State Flower, the Costal Rhododendron.
