Use of Amazon Business

How to use your Amazon Business account

DES manages a statewide Amazon Business account to be used for government purchases. This account was created to eliminate purchasers using individual and personal Amazon Prime subscriptions, provide more transparency, and help save the state money.

If you need to buy items that aren't available through statewide contracts, you can set up your own agency Amazon account. Your account will be a part of the statewide account, and you will have access to your own records and controls.

Accounts are available to:

  • State agencies
  • Boards
  • Commissions
  • Higher education institutes
  • School districts
  • Local government agencies
  • Offices of elected officials

All Amazon purchases must be:

  • Purchased through the state Amazon Business account. (Purchasers should not use a personal Amazon Prime subscription for government purchases.)
  • In compliance with enterprise procurement policies, including the Direct Buy Policy DES-125-03.

For questions about using the state's Amazon Business account, email the Contracts and Procurement Business Operations team.

How to sign up for the state’s Amazon Business account

There are two ways to set up an Amazon Business Account, depending on your organization’s needs:

Advanced Setup

The advanced setup is for organizations that:

  • Manage many users.
  • Need to organize users into groups.
  • Will add users by spreadsheet.

Simple Setup

The simple setup is for organizations that:

  • Have a small number of users (usually fewer than 10).
  • Don’t need to organize users into groups.

A competitive solicitation process must be used for all purchases of goods and services unless there is an exception listed under RCW 39.26.125. Direct buy purchases are one of the exceptions, which do not require a competitive process. Certain public purchases do not justify the administrative time and expenses necessary to conduct a competitive process.
