Memorial Day events planned for Capitol Campus May 30

There are two Memorial Day events scheduled at the Capitol Campus on Monday, May 30, which will bring hundreds of people, many on motorcycles, to the war memorials and buildings there.

Approximately 400 people are expected in the Capitol Rotunda from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the annual Memorial Day event sponsored by the Thurston County Veterans Council. This event will feature a band, Puget Sounders, speakers and a cannon and rifle salute.

Immediately following that event, about 300 motorcycles and riders will rumble on to campus for the Olympia Rolling Thunder Run annual Memorial Day event from noon to 2 p.m. at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Rolling Thunder is a nonprofit group that advocates for full accountability for U.S. prisoners of war and those missing in action.

The Rolling Thunder event will include the arrival of hundreds of motorcycles and spectators, an opening flag ceremony with speakers, a wreath presentation and closing prayer.
