Campus tree removal, trimming scheduled for June 23-24
A tree care company will be on the Capitol Campus and other nearby state properties June 23-24 to remove a dead tree, prune a historic one and grind several stumps.
Starting at around 8 a.m. on June 23, Arbor Care Tree Specialists will remove a dead elm tree on the north side of Centennial Park. The work will require the closure of some parking stalls and one lane of the south side of Union Avenue between Washington and Franklin streets.
Also on June 23, Arbor Care will use a pneumatic air spade to aerate the soil around the base of a nearly 100-year-old cypress tree on southwest corner of the Old Capitol Building property in downtown Olympia, and grind a cedar stump just west of the Cherberg Building.
On June 24, the company will prune the crown of the cypress tree, grind several tree stumps near the Transportation Building and another one in Heritage Park – near the intersection of Simmons Street and 5th Avenue.
