The City of Olympia will be closing lanes on 14th Avenue East at Jefferson Street Southeast in the 14th Avenue Tunnel for approximately four hours on Thursday, Jan. 12. The tunnel is commonly used to access the Capitol Campus coming off exit 105 on Interstate 5.

Traffic impacts to 14th Avenue East will be staggered, beginning with a one-lane closure of eastbound traffic for approximately two hours, followed by a one-lane closure of westbound traffic for approximately two hours.

Drivers should expect delays through the work zone; the closures will not block regular access to the Plaza Garage, 1500 Jefferson Building Visitor Parking, or East Capitol Campus.

Where: 14th Avenue East at Jefferson Street Southeast, near roundabout and Plaza Garage. See campus map.

When: Approximately 8 a.m. - noon Thursday, Jan. 12.

Why: Work to evaluate underground utility tunnels and uncover the reason for recurrent flooding in the 14th Avenue Tunnel. Lane closures are required to safely access the utility tunnels.

All work is weather dependent.
