Effective Sept. 1, Jo Aiken is the Department of Enterprise Services’ (DES) chief operations officer (COO).

DES Director Matt Jones made the appointment, stating, "Jo brings strong and broad operational experience. Her leadership and collaborative approach will help us deliver on DES' vision to deliver seamless government solutions that improve the lives of every Washingtonian."

Since joining DES in October 2022, Aiken has served as deputy assistant director and later assistant director of the Capitol Security & Visitor Services Division. Under her leadership, DES has grown its partnerships and community support for people who visit and work on the state's Capitol Campus. She has helped drive operational improvements that support DES' goal of creating efficiencies across state government, allowing agencies to focus on their core missions.

"What matters most to me is leading with performance, accountability, equity and a human-centered mindset — all of which align with DES' mission to strengthen the business of government for a sustainable and just future," Aiken said.

Before joining DES, Aiken served as deputy director in the Office of Facilities at the Washington State Department of Health. Earlier in her career, she managed daily operations in large correctional facilities across the country.

Aiken holds a bachelor's degree in public administration from the University of Hawaii and a master's degree in public safety and organizational leadership from Capella University. She lives in Olympia with her wife.
