Capitol Campus Update
The Olympia Kiwanis Club needs volunteers to help harvest vegetables and pull weeds at the East Capitol Campus food bank gardens near the Korean War Memorial.
Kiwanis members and volunteers meet at the gardens every Tuesday at about 5:15 p.m. and work until about 6:30 p.m. Garden tools, gloves and bottled water are provided. A daily leader will be on site to give directions and assist with the work.
This is the third year that the Kiwanis have grown vegetables on the Capitol Campus.
Last year, the club, with the help of local groups and individual volunteers, provided more than 11,000 pounds of fresh produce to the Thurston County Food Bank.
With nearly 6,000 square feet of new space under cultivation and 26,000 square feet overall, the Kiwanis expect to exceed last year's harvest.
The Olympia Kiwanis Foundation is part of the State Employees Combined Fund Drive.
