The City of North Bend faced a challenge with an outdated and undersized wastewater treatment plant that was struggling to meet the needs of its growing population. The plant was also posing a burden on the city and its staff due to its process and operations inefficiencies.
To address these challenges, the City of North Bend partnered with DES for project and contract management. DES helped the city identify and implement energy and utility improvements in the existing facilities. Through this collaboration, DES provided expertise in energy efficiency, facilitating the much-needed upgrade of North Bend's wastewater treatment plant.
Following the upgrade, the treatment plant now has an increased capacity, enabling the city to extend public sewer service to the western portion of North Bend. The improvements have not only enhanced the efficiency of the wastewater treatment process but have also resulted in the discharge of cleaner water back into the environment. Additionally, the implemented safety enhancements serve to protect both workers and the community from potential hazards. Ultimately, these updates have significantly contributed to a healthier and safer environment for everyone, including the preservation of the nearby Snoqualmie River and its surrounding wildlife.
