Annual festival to impact campus streets July 13-22

The Department of Enterprise Services has issued a permit for Capital Lakefair, an annual five-day community festival on the shores of Capitol Lake.

Organizers estimate that more than 200,000 people will attend the event, which runs July 17-22, and requires temporary closures of several Capitol Campus and city streets throughout the week.

A section of Water Street Southwest, next to Heritage Park will be closed starting July 13th at 8 a.m. for festival set up.

Here is a partial list of street closures during Lakefair:

  • Deschutes Parkway Southwest, between 5th Avenue Southwest and Lakeridge Drive Southwest, will be closed from about 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, July 19.
  • Parking along Deschutes Parkway Southwest will be limited in some areas from about noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.
  • Washington Street Southeast –- next to Sylvester Park -– between Legion Way Southeast and 7th Avenue Southeast will be closed from about 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.
  • 11th Avenue Southwest at Capitol Way, the south diagonal parking area and Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest will be closed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.
  • The north diagonal parking area will be closed beginning the morning of Friday, July 19, and the flag circle will be closed at 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, for the Capital City 3on3 event which runs all weekend.
  • The area behind the Temple of Justice Building, the Governor’s Mansion parking lot, and the switchback trail that leads to Capitol Lake will be closed on Sunday, July 21, at noon to begin preparations for Lakefair's fireworks.

Enterprise Services manages the historic Capitol Campus in Olympia which includes five parks and Capitol Lake.
