DES preparing for possible Capitol Campus snow and ice

The National Weather Service has issued an alert for an inclement weather pattern moving into the area beginning Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, that will most likely bring snow and icy roads to the campus and surrounding area.

Response

The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) is activating the Buildings and Grounds Incident Command Post (ICP) to prioritize needs and deploy snow and ice response teams.

Highlights:

  • DES has scheduled delivery of additional snow and ice removal equipment.
  • DES will utilize a new blower to speed removal of snow on sidewalks.

DES staff will work to mitigate building and campus concerns as they are identified.

Garage entrance and ramp closures

Temporary closures of garage entrances and parking lot ramps due to icy conditions are as follows:

Closure locations include:

  • ESD/WSDOT garage entrance from Capitol Boulevard.
  • 14th Avenue Plaza garage entrance from Capitol Boulevard.
  • Natural Resource Building visitor parking lot entrance from Washington Street.
  • North ramps within the Natural Resource Building parking structure.

All other garage and parking lot entrances are open at this time.
