Green purchasing guidance for notebooks and notepads.

Required specifications

Purchasers must include these specifications, unless not possible:

  • All notepads and notebooks must contain at least 30% postconsumer recycled content (PCRC).

Preferred specifications

Purchasers should include these specifications, unless not possible:

  • Products with a higher percentage of recycled content than the applicable U.S. EPA CPG for this product category are eligible for a price preference of at least 10%.
  • Additional desirable environmental and health attributes of notebooks and notepads include the following:
    • Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC Recycled or FSC Mixed).
    • Paper is processed chlorine-free.

Things to avoid

Purchasers should avoid these specifications whenever possible:

  • Notebooks and notepads may NOT contain vinyl (PVC) covers, dividers or binders (including faux leather) or antimicrobial treatments.
