Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are harmful greenhouse gases that are present in some industrial cooling products. This training will help you write solicitations with a preference for products that do not contain HFCs.

State and higher education employees should take the “WA-State Environmental Procurement Preference” training through the Washington State Learning Center for a certificate of completion.

If you complete this course within the WA-State Learn Center, you will receive three one-minute boosters within the first 3 months of completing the course. These boosters help keep course information fresh in your mind.

This policy establishes the purchasing preference authorized in RCW 39.26.310 for competitive purchases of products that do not contain hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) or contain HFCs with a comparatively low global warming potential. The intent is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by incentivizing the State’s contract suppliers to provide products that do not contain HFCs.
