Capitol Campus Update: Elevator in Plaza Garage Tower One to close for upgrades

Scope & Impact: The Department of Enterprise Services is closing the Tower One elevator in the Capitol Campus Plaza Garage for upgrades beginning May 15 as part of ongoing elevator modernization efforts.

The stairs in Tower One will remain open for use.

The closest elevator is in Tower Two, which is found near the Korean War Memorial and Water Garden. Directional signs will be posted.

Parkers can expect to hear some noise during work hours.

Where: Upgrades will take place on the Tower One elevator in the Plaza Garage, the elevator closest to the Employment Security Department building.

When: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 15 through July 31.

Why: The work is part of an ongoing elevator modernization program funded by the Legislature to address maintenance and renovation needs of elevators on the Capitol Campus each biennium. The Plaza Garage elevator is the final project funded in the 2021-2023 biennium. Upgrades address safety needs, and include the replacement of all devices, motors, and control boards.

All work is weather dependent. The Washington State Department of Enterprise Services has contracted with RC Ziegler of Carnation, Wash. for this effort.
