Accessibility Information for the Legislative (Capitol) Building

ADA doors and disabled parking

Visitors to the Legislative Building will find four ADA parking spots on the south side of the building. These parking spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis. There are two ADA doors directly in front of these parking stalls with public elevators located just inside these entrances. These doors are not open on weekends or state holidays.

An additional accessible entrance to the Legislative Building is located at the southeast corner of the building, near the intersection of Sid Snyder Ave. and Cherry Lane. This entrance is closest to all other visitor parking and public transportation. Additionally, two ADA parking spaces are located near this entrance just in front of the Cherberg Building. This entrance is open to the public whenever the building is open.

Braille brochures

The self-guided Capitol tour brochure is available in braille and can be checked out from the Visitor Services office, which is located on the first floor of the Legislative Building in room 111. These materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Elevators and wheelchair access

The Legislative Building has two public elevators that provide access to all four floors. Both elevators are located on the south side of the building. Tours of the Legislative Building are wheelchair accessible.

Emergency alarms

Emergency alarms in the Legislative Building are equipped with flashing strobes for deaf and hard-of-hearing persons as well as an audible alarm for the sight-impaired.

Restrooms

ADA accessible restrooms are available on all four floors of the Legislative Building. Family restrooms are located on the north side of the second, third and fourth floors.

Sign language interpreters

Requests for American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters must be arranged in advance by calling the Visitor Services Office at 360-902-8880. On site ASL interpreting services are not available. Please give as much notice as possible.

Service animals

Only service animals specifically trained to support a person with a disability are allowed in the Legislative Building.

Wheelchair availability

A limited number of wheelchairs are available to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. Wheelchairs can be checked out from the Visitor Services office with a photo ID during business hours. The Visitor Services office is located on the first floor of the Legislative Building in room 111.
