Dana Allard-Webb Program Manager of Family Caregiver Support Program

Dana worked at the Lewis Mason Thurston Area Agency on Aging as a case manager for 10 years before moving on to Aging and Long-Term Support Administration in 2013. Since 2017, Dana has been Program Manager for the Family Caregiver Support Program and has worked with Lifespan Respite grants. She is a member of the Washington Dementia Action Collaborative and the Traumatic Brain Injury Council of Washington.

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence describes the ability to understand one's own feelings, and that of groups, and how these emotions can influence motivation and behavior. The concepts of Emotional Intelligence have been around since at least the 1900's, but the term was first introduced by Wayne Payne in 1985. As a result of the growing acknowledgement by professionals of the importance and relevance of emotions to work outcomes, the research on the topic continued to gain momentum, but it wasn't until the publication of Daniel Goleman's best seller Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ that the term became widely accepted by mainstream media. (37 minutes)

The Generation Gaps workshop will help participants understand the various generations present at work, and understand what motivates them and dealing with them on a daily basis. Both the young and older worker will have many ideas to offer, which will help the organization thrive in the marketplace. About our speaker

Tim Smolen, with the state Office of the Insurance Commissioner, works in the Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) program. Tim started as the SHIBA Program Manager in January 2021. He is a big fan of the Medicare program – even though it is complicated. The SHIBA program is celebrating 45 years as a free, unbiased and confidential service of the Office of Insurance Commissioner this year.

Tim previously worked at the OIC, Labor & Industries and the Health Care Authority – in both the PEBB and Medicaid divisions. Before his career in state government, Tim worked in several non-profit organizations, including at large insurance companies. Tim lives with his beloved wife, Stephanie, in Olympia. His hobbies include reading, walking, movies, and cooking for friends.

Stress Management

The Stress Management workshop will give participants a three-option method for addressing any stressful situation, as well as a toolbox of personal skills, including using routines, relaxation techniques, and a stress log system. They will also understand what lifestyle elements they can change to reduce stress. (33 minutes)
