Reminder: Aug. 5 public meeting on new campus building

The Department of Enterprise Services will host a public meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, to share information about the planned construction of a new state-owned office building at 1063 Capitol Way S.

The public meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Presentation room at the 1500 Jefferson St. building in Olympia. The meeting is being held is to share information about the project, including the current building schedule and likely near-term impacts resulting from demolition and construction.

The 1063 Block Replacement Project will demolish the vacant state-owned building currently at the corner of 11th Avenue and Capitol Way South and the adjacent parking garage – known as the GA garage – and construct a five-story, 215,000 square-foot office building covering the entire block. The building should be completed and tenants moved in by fall 2017.

The 2013 Legislature appropriated $13 million to design the building. The 2015 Legislature authorized DES to enter into a financing contract for up to $69 million for construction. The new building will be in the top 1 percent of office buildings nationally for energy efficiency.

Free parking is available for the meeting at the visitor lot located at the corner of Jefferson Street and Maple Park Avenue.
