Capitol Campus Pollinator Garden hours

The Pollinator Garden is located on the east Capitol Campus grounds and can be visited throughout the day, seven days a week.

Parking

Visitor parking is available along the north and south diagonals next to the Tivoli Fountain. The garden is located on the East Plaza above the 14th Avenue tunnel and has a spectacular view of the Capitol Building.

About the Capitol Campus Pollinator Garden

The garden is designed as an educational experience where visitors can learn how pollinators are essential to the health and sustainability of our ecosystems. Without pollinators, many plants, flowers and trees would not exist. In fact, 85% of the world's flowering plants depend on pollinators to reproduce! The garden was installed by DES Buildings and Grounds and includes eight learning stations, created by Woodland Park Zoo.

The pollinator garden is a collaborative effort between:

• The Office of the Governor
• Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife
• Washington State Department of Agriculture
• Woodland Park Zoo
• Xerces Society
• Squaxin Island Tribe
• Nisqually Indian Tribe
• The Chehalis Tribe

This is the first garden on Capitol Campus with an intentional educational component. Many other gardens and plantings on campus contain plants that benefit pollinators. At least 25% of the area for new public landscape projects should provide a friendly habitat for pollinators under 2021 legislation.

The state Legislature provided $53,000 in funding during the 2022 legislative session for the new garden's installation and initial maintenance.
